Chen is making an argument about changing peoples mind. Meagan Phelps-Roger was a dedicated christian who hated the Jews and also hated gay people. She said that 9/11 was brought on by God to repent our sins. At Westboro Baptist church, the pastor at the church had much more hatred towards gays and towards Jews than Meagan. At a rally, they held up a sign saying “God Hates Fags.” She posts her comments on Twitter and one day a man comes back at her saying she is wrong. Eventually these two started talking a lot on twitter and she changed her mind. She left the church because this man gave her good reason to believe that gay people are people too and it shouldn’t matter if they’re gay of not.

I was genuinely shocked that this lady changed her mind about everything she believed in for her entire life. I am not sympathetic to this story because these people are following the Bible word for word. If they truly believe in God, and everything good he stands for, then how could they have so much hated to so many people around the world. I went to Catholic School for most of my life and what I’ve learned is that the Bible is a story book. The stories in this book may have happened, bu they are exaggerated. These people over think every meaning of what is in this book and say that it is God’s way.
