Cosmopilitan: Discussion

The world that we live in today is much different than it was 2000 years ago. We are able to contact anyone in the world with a touch of a button. We were meant to live among 60 people, now we live among 7 billion. Apiahs’ writes, “The challenge, then, is to take minds and hearts formed over the long millennia of living in local troops and equip them with ideas and institutions that will allow us to live together as the global tribe we have become” (36-37)

Cosmopolitanism is about making connections. It is one of the ways Apiah thinks we can work on this problem. We must be kind to others that we share citizenship with and that we must respect others beliefs and and practices that made them significant.

  1. Since we have the great resource of the internet, it helps us connect to the rest of the world much easier and allow us to learn more about other cultures and beliefs and help us learn to respect those cultures that we might not have 2000 years ago.

  2. With the technology and all the additional privileges we have now compared to what we had years ago, it is a visible difference. With the open opportunities we have to communicate with one another, it is easy for us to learn from one another on a variety of things. The quote you have selected it very powerful and sends a lot of messages to the reader. Good.

  3. Technology has played a huge roll in the growth of society. We can connect with people that we couldn’t before with just one click. it has opened our minds to new possibilities and opportunities that others before us didn’t have. we can simple learn from each other now.
